About
Most writing about love is really writing about romance. Kinds of Love starts from the opposite assumption — that love has more than one shape, and that the shapes are different enough to deserve being looked at separately.
What gets published here
Long essays, each taking one kind of love seriously enough to spend real time on it:
- Friendship — relationships with no ceremony, no contract, and no obvious beginning
- Family — the love you did not choose, and what to do when it is complicated
- Romance — the one everybody writes about, approached without the usual assumptions
- Self-love — a phrase flattened by marketing, worth reclaiming
- Grief — what love becomes when the person is gone
- Community — care extended to people you will never meet
How it is written
Every essay is published in English and Traditional Chinese. Neither version is a mechanical translation of the other — each is written to read naturally in its own language, while the claims, figures and sources stay identical across both.
Factual claims are checked before they are published, and the sources are recorded in each article's metadata. Where a piece does its own arithmetic on someone else's research, it says so explicitly rather than presenting the calculation as a finding. If something here is wrong, that record is what makes it possible to show it.
There are no listicles, no engagement bait, and no pretending that a complicated subject is simple.
Who writes it
Kinds of Love is a personal publication, written and edited by mico. It is not affiliated with any institution, and it does not accept sponsored posts.
